SHERMAN OAKS, CA - Shortly after the XFL lost ties with WWE businessman, Vince McMahone, it found its way to another wrestling figurehead. Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson partnered with RedBird Capital to purchase the XFL for $15 million.
The actor and WWE star bought the bankrupt football league just before it went up for auction.
The pricey investment was split evenly between Johnson and Gerry Cardinale, who owns the private equity firm.
Ex-wife to Johnson, Dany Garcia, is a stakeholder in the business. Other women in sports are praising her for being such an inspiration.
Early Monday morning, tweets from Johnson and Garcia revealed just how excited they were to take over the XFL and "create something speacial.”
